"Falling in love with the wrong person has taught me to trust and value myself. It has taught me to be wiser and to follow my gut. But it has also shown me that I am a lover — a true, down to the depths of the soul lover. And one day, someone will appreciate that."
My “a-ha” moment was when I finally accepted all of me. Every part—my mistakes, my flaws, my beautiful, my scars. Every single part of me I accepted and I fell so deeply in love with me. This acceptance has allowed life to be so much easier to live and to appreciate. I only wish I could have done this sooner.
*What’s your best piece of woman-to-woman advice?
My best woman-to-woman advice is to do as I have done and accept yourself for who you are. Love yourself. Love every part of you with all that you have.
*What has been your favorite mistake?
My favorite mistake would have to be falling in love with the wrong person. And while I’ve been single since the beginning of 2013, this is the happiest I’ve been in a long time. This is also the surest I’ve been of myself in a long time. Falling in love with the wrong person has taught me to trust and value myself. It has taught me to be wiser and to follow my gut. But it has also shown me that I am a lover—a true, down to the depths of the soul lover. And one day, someone will appreciate that.
*So far, what has been the most challenging aspect of being a woman?
The most challenging aspect of being a woman has been proving that I'm capable. Being a woman doesn’t mean that 'I can’t do it' because someone feels I’m too weak or too emotional. It means that I can do whatever it is that I put my mind to and that I can do it better.
*What do you not want us to know?
I just may be the Queen of Nerds. Like, I reside in Nerdville, USA. I can take computers apart and put them back together. I can build a robot from scratch and teach others how to do the same. I spend hours and hours on codes just to get them to work. I love it.
*When do you feel most creative? What inspires you?
I feel the most creative at the last minute. I’d like to think that I work extremely well under pressure. And it’s not because I do things at the last minute all the time, but in my field and throughout my college career, I’ve had to make many adjustments that seem to always come at the most inopportune time. In addition, working in IT, you just have to learn to adjust and be ready for change at anytime.
I’m also most creative when I’m sad or troubled. I guess it’s because I really put my all into something to divert my attention.
But above all, I pull majority of my inspiration from my children. We’ve been through so much together and they deserve the best life that I can give them. Single parenthood is tough, but they shouldn’t have to go without because of it. So, I do everything for them. Everything. Because they deserve it.
*What does it mean to you to be a soulful beauty?
I’m big on self-love and that’s mainly because for a short time, I lacked in that area. I had allowed people to take me from me and I didn’t even fight to get me back. But that was until I decided that I couldn’t take anymore and I wanted me back. I wanted to be myself again—I wanted to love myself again. And I think that’s what it means to be a soulful beauty. Loving yourself with all that you have. Loving yourself to your core. Loving yourself to the depths of your soul.
