The Alisha Nicole // The Soul Behind the Brand

"Getting over fear is probably the biggest challenge I have had to get over. I am extremely shy and have struggled with self-doubt for the majority of my life. Even when I first started my business it was so hard for me to market myself and tell other people outside of family and friends what I had been working on. My fear of failing and worrying about what others would think was starting to affect my business so I had to take a stand and take back control over my life. Even though I still struggle with fear sometimes when it comes to making big decisions, becoming an entrepreneur has definitely dragged me out of my comfort zone."

*What inspired you to create Alisha Nicole Jewelry? How did you transition from hobby to business?
Before I started Alisha Nicole I was constantly looking for affordable jewelry that fit my style. I wanted something that wasn't too flashy but something I could also dress up if I needed to. Everything that I found was either not in my price range or something I wouldn't dare wear so I decided to create my own.

I have absolutely no design experience whatsoever but once I got started it was like I had unlocked a new gift. My transition from hobby to business was fairly easy. Whenever I would make jewelry I would either keep it for myself or just give it away to family and friends. Eventually people began contacting me about purchasing some of my work and once the demand became higher I knew it was time to really put my all into it and open up a shop! I never in a million years would have thought that what i started one Saturday afternoon would turn into a business!

*How is your personal vision for your life reflected through your business?
I always had a feeling that I was meant to become an entrepreneur. I have had a ton of jobs since I was 15 (I'm 25 now) and was extremely miserable in every one. I knew that I needed to create a life where I could do what I love and still make a living. I do my best to really promote doing what you love through my business and blog. I am all for people taking their passion and turning it into a profitable business.

*How do you keep a positive outlook and stay inspired? What do you do for your spirit when you start to experience burn out?
I always try to keep in mind that storms never last forever, especially when I am having a particularly hard day. When I'm feeling burned out then I know it's definitely time for me to take a break. I'll step away for awhile and catch up on my favorite shows or read a book. I find a lot of inspiration in reading about the lives of entrepreneurs that I admire.

*Have your friends and family supported your vision all along? If not, how did you deal with negative attitudes and/or disapproval?
My friends have always been very supportive from the start! I believe that they would support me doing almost anything as long as I am happy. My family has been very supportive as well, especially my mother! I believe at first she just thought it was a hobby until I up and quit my job to pursue my business full time then she saw how serious I was. She is always giving me ideas on what I should do next and sending me little inspirational quotes throughout the day.

*What are some of the challenges (internal and external) that you have had to overcome to get where you are?
Getting over fear is probably the biggest challenge I have had to get over. Even though I still struggle with fear sometimes when it comes to making big decisions, becoming an entrepreneur has definitely dragged me out of my comfort zone.

*What makes it all worth it? What aspect of the work are you most grateful for?
Being able to wake up every morning and get up and do something that I am so passionate about is what makes it all worth it. Before I quit my last job I would literally wake up every morning in tears because of how much I hated going. Now I literally thank God everyday that I have been given the chance to pursue my dreams! I am most grateful for the fact that I get to share my journey with others and hopefully inspire them to pursue their dreams as well.

*What advice would you offer to women who are uninspired in their work and want to create a business or project of their own?
My first piece of advice would be to really sit down and think about what you are truly passionate about. What could you see yourself doing for the rest of your life even if you weren't getting paid for it? After that, write down the vision you have for your business, let your imagination run wild and think about how your business would look and feel if fear and money were not issues. Then I would say just go for it! Make small goals each week and then plan out what you have to do to complete those goals. It can be anything from registering your domain name to contacting potential web designers. Trust me the hardest part is getting started!
