practice to presence: a three-part workshop series
Practice to Presence
a 3-part series for writers who want to nurture their writing practice, build a creative platform, and share it with courage
. . .
Are you ready to turn your private writing into a practice—and a creative platform—that feels purposeful and sustainable?
This series is for people who want to write about their lives and develop a consistent writing practice,
who long to articulate what their creative callings are really about, and who feel the pull to build a platform
that serves as both a personal outlet and a source of inspiration and connection for others.
I created this customizable three-part series to answer questions like:
What themes and topics matter to me, and what do I have to say?
How can my interests, values, gifts, and challenges fuel my creative work?
How can I live in a way that honors and sustains my creative rhythm?
How can I translate my creative purpose into a practice and platform that brings joy, focus and fulfillment?
How do I create consistently without feeling overwhelmed?
. . .
FROM PRACTICE TO PRESENCE
creativity: fuel for a life well-lived
Too often, I’ve watched people talk themselves out of pursuing their calling to write. Many of us are conditioned to treat creativity as a luxury—something extra, optional, or even frivolous. We don’t always recognize the direct connection between our creative expression and our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. And because of that, we don’t carve out space for it.
We push it aside. We tell ourselves we’ll get to it later, when life slows down, when we’ve accomplished more, when we’ve ‘earned’ the right to focus on it. But the truth is, weaving creative exploration into our lives is one of the most powerful ways to improve our well-being, deepen our sense of purpose, and grow personally and professionally in an authentic way.
I hear the concerns about not having enough time, energy, clarity, or know-how to commit to creative self-discovery. But the truth is: the inklings and nudges you have are there for a reason. And with the right guidance, structure, and support, you can give them the attention they deserve in a way that is nourishing and not overwhelming.
Practice to Presence is a three-part series designed to walk you through this journey step-by-step. From practice, to vision, to execution, each 2-hour workshop builds on the one before it, but can also stand alone. You can join one workshop on its own or take part in the full series for the most impact.
. . .
And here’s a little about me, the one who will be guiding you through:
I know what it feels like to talk yourself out of your creative work. I also know what it takes to keep showing up in spite of uncertainty.
To build a consistent writing practice, find a rhythm that works for you, and build a creative ecosystem that not only
enriches your life but also opens doors to opportunities you never imagined.
That’s the path I’ve walked, and I’m here to help you explore the path that’s right for you.
. . .
FINDING YOUR LANE
our paths are shaped by our passions
In order for me to fully process anything that happens in my life, I have to write about it. Writing is how I take care of myself, and it is also my livelihood.
For the last 12 years, I’ve been self-employed as a full-time creative. Coaching and facilitating have grown naturally out of my writing practice, becoming another form of creative expression, my heart in action. Over the years, I’ve filled countless journals, blogged regularly, created e-books and e-courses, self-published and traditionally published books, and worked with clients one-on-one and in groups. My work has taken me into universities, non-profits, companies, and communities—supporting artists, students, executives, academics, writers, and non-writers alike.
Through it all, one thing has never wavered: my compulsion to write, to study life, and to uncover the layers of story: my own, my clients, and communities. The personal and collective, the visible and the hidden. I’ve explored the factors that keep us from our stories, the barriers that make expression feel risky or impossible. I’ve studied both the emotional challenges and the strategic hurdles we face as creators.
What courses through all of my work is a deep curiosity about life and the human experience. At its core, my pursuit has always been about love—the love that exists beyond pain, the love that fuels creativity, the love that connects us to ourselves and each other. That love is the creative energy I return to again and again, and that I direct others to as a redirection from fear.
. . .
The secret to a fulfilling creative life isn’t popularity, it’s presence.
The fear of judgment often blocks us from creative fulfillment.
Over the years, I’ve developed a clear point of view about what it takes to build a creative path that truly enriches your life and supports your well-being.
True fulfillment doesn’t come from external validation, it comes from motivation that is rooted within, from the steady
practice of showing up for yourself and your stories, and from allowing your creative work to become a source
of wholeness, healing, and presence that eventually extends beyond the page into everything you do.
With this perspective, I’ve packaged my techniques into a series of workshops: Practice to Presence.
Here’s how it breaks down:
Part One: Writing as a Restorative Practice
Saturday, October 18 from 11 am - 1 pm et on Zoom | $60
Description:
A life-long, restorative writing practice doesn’t come from chasing outcomes. It comes from aligning with what lights you up, from writing in a way that feels like it belongs to you. This requires working with your natural rhythms, not against them.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to develop an inspired and sustainable creative life by connecting to your inner landscape—your values, interests, gifts, and challenges—and translating those insights into habits, themes, and projects that support your authentic need for expression.
Together, we’ll shift the focus from output to intention, creating a practice measured not by what it produces, but by how it feels.
Through four guided exercises, you’ll learn how to channel your creative energy into the themes and habits that support you most and that fit naturally into your life.
This workshop is ideal for writers of all levels: whether you’ve been writing for years, are just starting, or are returning to the practice.
Objectives:
✦ Identify a creative goal or calling (big or small) that you are holding right now.
✦ Explore your motivations and the deeper purpose behind your creative urges.
✦ Identify the connective threads that shape your creative voice and inform your work.
✦ Discover where your values, interests, gifts, and challenges intersect, and the projects or themes that can emerge from that intersection.
✦ Understand the creative process and the habits and rhythms that support it.
✦ Develop a clear creative purpose statement to ground and guide your practice.
✦ Translate your creative purpose into actionable steps.
Part Two: Turning Your Writing Practice into a Creative Platform
Wednesday, November 19 from 6 - 8 pm et on Zoom | $60
DESCRIPTION:
You’ve built a writing practice—now how do you begin sharing your words in a way that feels authentic, purposeful, and aligned with your life? Further, how can you give yourself permission to share in a way that feels like experimentation instead of performance?
In this workshop, we’ll explore how to turn personal writing into a creative platform that helps you connect with others. You’ll learn how to identify your key messages, clarify who you want to reach, and choose a sharing space that supports your goals. Together, we’ll shift from perfectionism and pressure to a mindset of experimentation and discovery.
The goal is to build a creative platform that you would pour your heart into and treasure, whether anyone else cared to engage with it or not. A creative platform can also be thought of as a project: a website, blog, newsletter, social media, podcast, a book project, or some other outlet that aligns with your needs, preferences, personality, and purpose.
We will focus on key messages, connecting with an audience, and things to consider when choosing a platform or project.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have tools for shaping your writing into content that resonates, along with the mindset you need to begin showing up for your readers in a sustainable way.
Objectives:
✦ Clarify your intended audience: who you want to reach, why they matter to you, and how you want to connect.
✦ Shape your connective threads into core messages that speak to the audience you want to engage.
✦ Explore different sharing platforms (newsletter, blog, social media, podcast, editors/agents, etc.) and identify what feels energizing versus draining.
✦ Choose a starting point for engagement, how you want to introduce yourself and join the conversation.
✦ Adopt a mindset of experimentation, treating your platform as a creative lab rather than a performance stage.
✦ Create a simple, flexible plan to begin shaping personal writing into public content.
Part Three: Developing Systems for Consistent Creation
Wednesday, December 17 from 6 - 8 pm et on Zoom | $60
DESCRIPTION:
One of the biggest challenges writers face is moving from raw, inspired writing to a sustainable system for sharing that writing with others. In this workshop, we’ll explore practical techniques and workflows that help you turn your words into meaningful outputs with a consistency that works for you and without burning out.
Many of us creatives are resistant to structure, myself included. But we need systems for our creative work because they reduce the mental friction that comes from uncertainty and endless decision-making. Systems don’t stifle imagination, they actually free it. By developing systems, we create the space to focus on what truly matters, explore ideas more deeply, and experiment without feeling scattered or overwhelmed.
You’ll learn how to create a rhythm for your creative practice that makes it easier to share your work without constantly starting from scratch and reinventing the wheel.
This isn’t about forcing yourself into a rigid system. It’s about building sustainable practices that support your creativity and free up your energy, so you can focus on exploring the topics and projects that inspire you, enrich your life, and forge connection with others.
By the end of this workshop, you will have some techniques and workflows to experiment with that bring structure and flow to your creative process.
Objectives:
✦ Understand how systems support consistency without stifling creativity.
✦ Experiment with content planning approaches that reduce decision fatigue and make sharing easier.
✦ Identify your personal energy rhythms and learn how to align them with your creative workflow.
✦ Practice brainstorming techniques that transform your key messages into repeatable content across different formats.
✦ See how I organize ideas, drafts, and projects to inspire ways you can structure your own workflow.
✦ Learn to distinguish between what writing is for yourself and what’s for your audience, and discover strategies for managing projects for different audiences without feeling overwhelmed.
✦ Explore approaches to establishing a sustainable writing and sharing schedule that fits your life and creative goals.
